Another long flight is over. We waved goodbye to Thailand with all the good memories and flew to Sydney. Flight went smoother than the previous one, some movies, food, games, more food and no sleep. Big plus for Thai airlines, for larger leg space and better head sets. Arriving early in the morning, we head directly to our airbnb flat in Mosman. (We bought a local sim card in the airport, local sims are sold to tourist easily, which is great.) Mosman is one of the nicest, posher suburbs of Sydney. Expensive houses, beautiful cars and people, everything clean, proper and pretty. It reminded us a bit our neighborhood in Marjaniemi, but 5 times more. We could definitely get used to the area though…
We were extremely lucky with our airbnb host John, he was very kind and helpful during our stay. The house was really convenient and nice with a small garden for our kids to play in. Though moving around needed some effort, hilly areas are good sport for adults, but sometimes too much for kids. It took 15 minutes walk to get to the market or 30 minutes to Balmoral Beach. Bus lines do run, but many of them required a pre purchased ticket, which we didn’t had and taxis were available, but just so expensive as many other thing too. We really miss low prices of Thailand…
In our second day, we had an easy going day in Taronga Zoo. Learned a lot about local animals and disgusting little insects and saw wonderful seal and bird shows. I have a mixed feeling about zoos, but this place is well build and very educational for kids and us. They promote environmenetally friendly life style and teach the kids about helping endangered animals. The Zoo staff felt also very dedicated and professional. Worth to visit.
During our last day, our host John took us sailing and showed Sydney from the sea. We sailed up North to one of the bays of Balgowlah Heights. There we anchored and had a dip and a moment on the small beach. We had a wonderful picnic in the boat with chicken and wine. Then we sailed down towards the Opera house, while passing the Middle Heights, Watsons Bay and Bradleys Head. Nice to sail on the start area of the famous Sydney-Hobart Race. Such a lovely day! John just wanted to remind that how lucky we were. This treat is not available for all the visitors (but if you are a sailor, I still recommend to ask ;)).
After waving goodbye to our first host we almost immediately hugged the next. Now we are in Kingsford at Ulla’s place, drinking Souther Comforth with coke and resting after a sunny and wavy day at the famous Bondi Beach. More about this later…
