Captains log, dawn of day 7
We have arrived to Brisbane! Once again a bit tired, but with a good mood. We freshened up quickly at a local mall and head to meet friend, who we met in Bozburun yacht club just one month earlier.
It was a funny incident in Bozburun. We were eating our breakfast and saw a catamaran with Australian and New Zealand flags up in the mast. Nico went to meet the people and asked some tips for our trip, ended up with kind invitations.
Even though we met very recently, Rudy’s hospitality was beyond our expectation. In his beautiful house, next to a canal, we stayed 2 nights.. In the evening we had an fantastic dinner: Thai style Corral Trout. Rudy invited another couple who were also in Bozburun to join us for dinner, Benno & Lorna from France and New Zealand.

We had wonderful conversations about different cultures, history, sailing, raising children and life in general..
In the middle of the dinner we had a funny moment.. Girls were very tired. They ate their fish quickly and were about to go to bed, but since it was Friday, which is their “candy day”, they wanted to get some desert. They asked me if there is any dessert or ice-cream. However since we are guest in a new house and just started our dinner I didn’t want to be rude and ask anything.. I told them to wait. However couple of minutes later, Ada (3 years old) went to Lorna and asked “My name is tatli ??” (Tatli means desert in Turkish.) Lorna looked at me and asked “Do they want dessert?”. I was partly embarrassed partly laughing at Ada’s ability to get what she wants with her limited language skills while the girls enjoyed their cheese cake 🙂
After several glasses of wine and then some more port wine, finally we went to sleep in very comfortable beds. While on the road you learn to appreciate basics things in life.
In our second day, we sailed with, Too Impetuous , a 12.8m Ron Holland designed sloop. We were motoring outside to the Cleveland bay area, sailing on Moreton bay , ancored and had a lunch in Myora.
We found our way inside the mangrove forest, which you can access only certain time of the day when there is a high tide. After enjoying the small waterfalls, we had to head back before all the water drained down.. We had a wonderful lunch in the boat with chicken and wine. Food tastes even better in a boat, while watching dolphins. 🙂
On our way home we had a small incident. We hit a sand bank on the east side of Peel island and got stuck.. Because of tides, the sandy areas keep on changing and find new places.. Even though you sail several times in the same areas, these surprises can happen.
While we were waiting for the rescue boat, the girls started to sing songs in different languages. Soon enough everybody in the boat was singing English, French and Finnish Christmas carols under the burning sun, waiting to be rescued… A moment to be remembered.
