From Chiang Mai, we rented a car and drove even more towards North, to the border of Myanmar (Burma), to a mountain town called Pai. It was a slow and extremely winding road with steep up’s and down’s. Just like a badly planned project.

This small town is one of the meeting points of backpackers, modern day hippies and people a like. Then the crowd is mixed with local people and some wealthy Japanese tourists, which just makes it even more interesting. Many said that Pai doesn’t really have anything to offer, but already the ride there was somewhat a unique experience. It did made me sick, but the view was incredible beautiful. We stayed in a comfy boutique hotel Rim Pai Cottage, which has different types of bungalows and huts for rent. This place offered really good value for money. Place was peaceful, huts were clean and nice and the location was very “central” just next to the Pai’s famous walking streets, restaurants and cafe’s.

Around Pai, there are plenty of action going, from hiking to white water rafting and elephant rides, but we decided just to take it easy, sit in and relax for couple of days. Highlights were the evening walks and tasting all those amazing street food flavors available. Good times!

Kids were also happy to wind out after the jungle experiences in Chai Lai Orchid. They even helped us to make new friends, when they teamed up with Hope and Lotty. Two adorable kids from London, who’s been marinated in Thailands flavors for already one year. Good times got even better!!

On the way back to Chiang Mai we took a refreshing dip under Mok Fa’s waterfalls. Gentle washing program under the water which runs by thousands of litres per minute gave some excitement for all of us, kids especially. That really helped to clear the dizzy head after the downhill sledging on those curves. Then a quick lunch and meeting with local sheep before driving back to Chiang Mai for two more nights. Then trip continues on new continents…Hooray!
