It’s our fourth day of traveling. We had the privilege to leave kids to Izmir at grandparents and head to Cesme. It’s a well known town at the Alacati peninsula, area which multiplies it’s inhabitants during the summer time.

Currently the off season has started, weather is mild 25 degrees and wind howls from North West with 25-30 knots. Perfect conditions for surfing and kite boarding, so we chose our breakfast place accordingly. From Cesme within 10 minutes car ride you enter the bay of Alacati which is well a known place among wind surfers & kite boarders around the world. This place offers good, steady winds from the land which keeps the water of the bay flat.

Makah, is one of the many beach cafe’s & surf schools on the bay and actually the one which happens to be still open, when majority of people has gone back to cities. Good food & friendly service with laid back attitude it is also a good spot to meet with locals and foreign visitors.

No matter how popular this place is during the summer time, some of the local surfers tend to talk about the bay with a tone of melancholy. I can imagine, that some 15 years ago this place was a surfers paradise where you surfed during the day and sat next to a fire in the evening. Free shores, less people, less traffic, etc. Many places go through similar transition. Unfortunately it is always in the hands of the people who has the interest and money, to try to keep the original flavour. We can only hope that the future investors, owners and visitors will respect this.

Never the less, the place has still the winds, people and good atmosphere, especially in the off season time.
